High school students and current Oklahoma State University students who want to learn more about the award-winning OSU Greek system have an opportunity at the upcoming Greek Discovery Day.  Greek Discovery Day provides students nationwide the chance to learn more about what fraternity and sorority membership has to offer. Members from each of the four Greek life councils: Interfraternity, Multicultural Greek, National Pan-Hellenic and Panhellenic, will be on hand to showcase the benefits of Greek life.

“Last year was the largest Greek Discovery Day with more than 2,500 students and parents in attendance,” said Ann Reightler, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs coordinator.

Ideally, each of the councils would like to increase attendance from states outside of those that border Oklahoma. This goal would help enrich OSU’s fraternity and sorority community by incorporating a variety of backgrounds into the Greek community.

Greek Discovery Day 2016 will take place April 2 from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the Stillwater campus. The event is open to high school juniors, seniors, parents and any non-Greek OSU student. The students will have the opportunity to go on tours in the IFC and Panhellenic houses. Students who are interested in NPHC and MGC are invited to lunch at a joint Yard Show. While students are touring houses and at the Yard Show, parents will have the opportunity to attend a parent-only formal discussion about the Greek life on campus where they can ask questions and speak with Dr. John Mark Day, director of Leadership and Campus Life.

“I recommend attending the event with an open mind,” Reightler said.  “I hope each student who attends will take the time to learn about each of the councils so they can find a home that best fits them.”

Students can learn more about the event and register online at gogreek.okstate.edu/greek-discovery-day. Registration is $45 per student if received by March 1 and includes a T-shirt. Registrations received after noon on March 1 will not include a Greek Discovery Day T-shirt. After March 1, registration is $50. The deadline for online registration is March 30 at noon. On-site registration will be available with cash or check payment. Extra T-shirts will also be available for purchase. Registrations are non-refundable after March 25 at 5 p.m.

The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs oversees four councils, including the Panhellenic, Interfraternity, National Pan-Hellenic and Multicultural Greek Council. The OSU Greek community is composed of more than 3,000 students representing 48 diverse men’s and women’s fraternal organizations.
