Leigh Anne Tuohy

Leigh Anne Tuohy will speak at Oklahoma State University Feb. 17, sharing her story and encouraging others to recognize their full potential. Tuohy’s inspirational story was the basis for the Oscar-winning film “The Blind Side.” Weather postponed her earlier scheduled appearance in Stillwater.

Tuohy and her family, including Michael Oher, are known for their heart-warming relationship featured in both the book and the movie. Their story boldly depicts both the struggles and triumphs of building a blended family. Tuohy, a Memphis, Tenn., native, urges everyone to find the value in things others may see as valueless. After adopting her son, Michael Oher, Tuohy emphasizes Oher’s great impact on her life. Her hope is to improve people’s lives similar to how her life experiences have changed her.

Ryan Neal, Speakers Board assistant director, said the Speakers Board focus is for Tuohy to discuss being compassionate no matter what the situation.

“We want the students to walk away feeling empowered to promote positive changes in their own communities,” Neal said. “We also are excited for her to talk about giving with a purpose.”

The OSU Speakers Board will host Leigh Anne Tuohy at the Wes Watkins Center at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17. The event will close with a brief audience Q&A session. Admission is free, but is limited to the first 1,000 people on a first come, first served basis.  Doors will open at 6 p.m.

The OSU Speakers Board is a sector of the Student Government Association that works to bring top-notch speakers to the Oklahoma State University campus. SGA allocates funds to clubs and organizations for events that can be enjoyed by the entire student body. It also designs programs to better the OSU campus, community and most importantly, students’ way of life.
