NESI-SES Association awards energy research grants to OSU faculty

The National Energy Solutions Institute-Smart Energy Source (NESI-SES) Association
has announced recipients of research grants totaling $150,000 to fund studies of energy-related
projects that will impact Oklahoma and national energy industries.
NESI-SES, a research partnership between Oklahoma State University and members of
the Smart Energy Source Association, is awarding three, one-year research grants worth
$50,000 each to the following OSU researchers:
- Dr. Jamey Jacob, professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, for the proposal, “UAS (unmanned aerial systems) for Infrastructure Inspection”
- Dr. Ajay Kumar, assistant professor, and co-principal investigator Dr. Raymond Hunke, professor, Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, for the proposal, “Low-Cost Mobile Power Generation Unit Capable of Converting a Broad Range of Carbonaceous Feedstocks”

A grant divided among the following scientists for the research proposal, “Privacy
Issues in Smart Grid Data Sharing”
- Dr. Qi Cheng, associate professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Dr. Arash Pourhabib, assistant professor, Industrial Engineering
- Dr. Eric Chan-Tin, assistant professor, Computer Science
NESI-SES supports research to provide solutions to issues of interest to the energy
industry. Topics to be considered for research and development include, but are not
limited to:
- Oil and gas exploration and production
- Renewable energy sources
- Power transmission and distribution
- Energy efficiency, conservation and sustainability
- Policy and Finance
Grant funding was made possible by SES members in collaboration with the OSU Research
Foundation (OSURF) and the Office of the Vice President for Research. NESI-SES, founded
in 2013, brings together utilities and other energy-related companies with scientists
involved with OSU energy research programs to increase collaboration, collective intelligence
