OSU Service-Learning Volunteer Center celebrates milestone

Monday, October 13, 2014

The Oklahoma State University Service-Learning Volunteer Center will mark its 30th anniversary with stories of service experiences from volunteers as well as entertainment on Friday, Oct. 17, from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Students, faculty, staff, administrators, community partners and volunteers are invited to attend the celebration, which will also include refreshments.

OSU students are known for their service leadership both in the local community and internationally. During the 2013-14 academic year, more than 186,000 volunteer hours were documented through the SLVC.  “Our volunteers are an enormous gift to the community,” said Joyce Montgomery, SLVC coordinator. “They provide the talents and stewardship that strengthen the communities around us.”

The SLVC would not be possible without those who dedicate hours to better the community, focused on giving their service to those in need. The SLVC works with student groups, as well as students working through various university departments, to spread student learning and meaningful interactions on campus and in the community.

Please RSVP to Joyce Montgomery to join in the SLVC 30th anniversary celebration by emailing joyce.montgomery@okstate.edu.

Since its inception in 1984, the Service-Learning Volunteer Center has promoted leadership for Oklahoma State University students by offering interactive and meaningful service-learning activities, providing research opportunities and connecting with society to promote the general welfare of its citizens.
