Outlaw days exhibit opens Thursday

Monday, September 15, 2014

“Notorious Payne County" opens Thursday

The Sheerar Museum will open a new exhibit that highlights the rougher side of local history titled "Notorious Payne County" with a reception from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18.

In the absence of sufficient law enforcement and personal restraint, outlaws prospered in Payne County before statehood. "Notorious Payne County" illustrates this outlaw history and its significance to Oklahoma. The exhibit is co-sponsored by OSU Special Collections and University Archives.

While you’re there, see “Where the College Came From” a look at the history of Old Central to commemorate the 120th anniversary of OSU’s oldest building on campus. The exhibit will remain on view through November.

Sheerar Museum is located at 702 S. Duncan St. in Stillwater. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Click here for the museum website.
