Polish pianist to present lecture-recital

Polish pianist Slawomir Dobrzanski will visit the OSU campus to present a lecture-recital featuring the piano works Maria Szymanowska at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, in the concert hall of the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts.

A versatile pianist with a broad repertoire, Dobrzanski frequently performs as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, South America, China, and throughout the United States. He has recorded a multi disc album of complete piano music by Maria Szymanowska, recently released by the Acte Prealable label. This is the first recording of Szymanowska’s complete piano music in the world.

As a soloist, he has performed in Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Macedonia, Spain, France, China, Taiwan, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, Canada, and throughout the United States. He is a graduate of the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, Poland, and the University of Connecticut, where he received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2001. He also participated in summer courses in Switzerland and Poland, where he studied piano performance with Malcolm Frager, Mieczysław Horszowski and Victor Merzhanov.

Dobrzanski has recorded solo and chamber music of various major composers for Polish Radio and Television in Warsaw. He is also author of the first English language biography of the acclaimed 19th century pianist and composer Maria Agata Szymanowska, published in 2006.

Dobrzanski currently teaches piano performance, chamber music and piano literature in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.
