Statement from Oklahoma State University President Burns Hargis on Gov. Mary Fallin’s commitment to Oklahoma and higher education

Monday, October 10, 2016

“In a recent editorial, The O’Colly referenced the unfortunate reception given our Governor as she accepted a generous donation from one of our blue-chip athletic sponsors on the field during the OSU/Texas game. The donation supports Governor Fallin’s very worthwhile Feeding Oklahoma initiative. As someone who has worked with Governor Fallin throughout her more than 25 years of public service to the citizens of Oklahoma, I am reminded how wonderful it is to have an alum of our beloved university leading our state. I admire her pursuit to build a stronger Oklahoma by promoting innovation and investment in our state. The “America Works: Education and Training for Tomorrow’s Jobs” initiative she launched as chair of the National Governors Association to increase the number of college degree holders not only in Oklahoma, but also the nation, underscores her understanding of the critical role higher education can play in strengthening our economy for the long-term. It is always a pleasure for me to warmly welcome Gov. Fallin back home to the beautiful campus of Oklahoma State University.”
