Danú, a seven-person traditional Irish ensemble, which has delighted audiences worldwide for two decades, is coming to Stillwater on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m. on the Seretean Center Concert Hall stage as a part of the OSU Allied Arts series.

Formed in 1995, the band has flourished in popularity since the debut of its self-titled album in 1997.  Since then, the accolades have grown along with the group’s discography, which currently includes nine albums, as well as numerous awards from the BBC and “Irish Music Magazine.”

Danú features highly-skilled players on flute, tin whistle, fiddle, button accordion, bouzouki, and vocals (Irish and English).  The ensemble uses its instruments to take audience members on a musical journey of its native Ireland, offering a moving and memorable concert experience.

“After Allied Arts presented Julie Fowlis and her band in 2014, we realized how popular Scottish and Celtic music was with our audience,” said Brandon Mitts, arts, culture and entertainment manager. “As Danú flies to the U.S. to begin its tour, Stillwater will be the band’s first stop. I hope we can pack the house and properly welcome this accomplished group to the U.S.”

Over the years, Danú’s global, standing-room-only concerts have offered high-energy performances and a glorious mix of ancient Irish music and new repertoire. Stillwater is fortunate to be one of the band’s tour stops this time, the ensemble has played in such venues as The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Symphony Space in New Year City.

Tickets for the performance are $20 for adults and $10 for OSU students and children 12 and under. They can be purchased online at tickets.okstate.edu or by phone at 405-744-7509. Tickets will also be available at the Seretean Center Concert Hall the evening of the performance beginning at 6:30. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

The Danú performance is the fourth installment in the 2016-2017 OSU Allied Arts series. For decades, the OSU Allied Arts office has brought top-notch talent to the OSU campus. The Allied Arts office seeks to enrich the lives of students through the arts, hosting a total of eight performances during the year.
