2017 Oklahoma Economic Outlook Conference to focus on trajectory of state’s energy industry

The Oklahoma State University Center for Applied Economic Research and Spears School of Business will host the 2017 Oklahoma Economic Outlook Conference on Dec. 6 at the Metro Technology Centers Springlake Campus in Oklahoma City.

Dan Rickman, Regents Professor of Economics at the OSU Spears School of Business, will present his report discussing forecasts of major economic variables for Oklahoma and will focus on the expected trajectory of Oklahoma’s energy industry. The Oklahoma State Econometric Model, which provides information on the probable performance of the Oklahoma economy in the upcoming year, was used to compile Rickman’s report.

Conference speakers will also include experts from Boeing and the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber. They will discuss the future of aerospace and its importance in Oklahoma. In addition, they will address national, state and local economic conditions.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the conference is from 9 a.m. to noon.

Ken Eastman, dean of the Spears School, and Marcie Mack, state director of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, will introduce the speakers.

Kurt Foreman, executive vice president of economic development at the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, will speak at 9:15 a.m. He will be presenting “Aerospace: A Key Engine for Greater Oklahoma City’s Present and Future Success.” His presentation will discuss the current size, scale, and impact of aerospace on the region from a recently completed analysis of this sector that was commissioned by the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber.

Tanya Monning, Oklahoma Site CFO at The Boeing Company, will present about the aerospace industry and its impact on connecting people and defending freedoms around the world at 9:45 a.m. This will be followed by a question-and-answer session and break.

Jim Huntzinger, executive vice president and chief investment officer at the Bank of Oklahoma Financial Corporation, will present at 10:45 a.m. Huntzinger will discuss the national economic forecast.

Rickman will be presenting his report immediately after Huntzinger.

Registration for the 2017 Economic Outlook Conference is $60 per person before Nov. 23, and $75 per person after Nov. 23. Sponsorships are still available.
