RSVP now to attend April 4 OSU Crop Production Clinic in Guymon

Monday, March 26, 2018

Agricultural producers in northwestern Oklahoma and surrounding regions should register now to attend the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service’s 19th Annual Crop Production Clinic in Guymon.

This year’s 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. clinic will be taking place April 4 at Hunny’s BBQ, located at 103 N. Main St. There is no cost to attend but participants are asked to RSVP no later than April 2 to ensure sufficient seating and conference materials are on hand. To RSVP, simply contact the Oklahoma Panhandle Research and Extension Center by phone at 580-349-5440.

“Due to low prices on grain crops, producers in the High Plains are looking at increasing their soybean and cotton acres; this year’s clinic is heavily focused on providing best management practices for producing these crops,” said Josh Bushong, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension area agronomist.

In addition to agronomic production insights, producers will also hear from OSU experts about farm data, economics and budgets, and new trait technologies.

“Think of the clinic as one-stop shopping to learn how to reduce production risks,” Bushong said. “Sessions will be led by crop, business and technology specialists from OSU’s Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.”

Dicamba training mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will offered to clinic participants immediately following the event. The training is required for anyone who plans on applying Xtendimax, FeXapan or Engenia in dicamba-tolerant soybeans or cotton.

“Certified applicators – private, commercial or service technician – will be mailed a new applicators card while non-certified applicators will be mailed a certificate to prove they had this training,” Bushong said.

In addition to the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, sponsors for the April 4 clinic include DASNR’s statewide Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station system, Hunny’s BBQ, Crop Production Services, Loveland Products and Dyna-Gro Seed.

Anyone seeking additional information should contact Bushong by phone at 580-237-7677.
