Erin Slagell is the 2024 Louis and Betty Gardner Outstanding Senior for the Ferguson College of Agriculture.

Slagell named 2024 Ferguson College of Agriculture Outstanding Senior

Erin Slagell of Hydro, Oklahoma, was recently named Oklahoma State University’s Ferguson College of Agriculture 2024 Louis and Betty Gardner Outstanding Senior.   

Slagell is receiving a bachelor’s degree in food science and is the daughter of Dwayne and Kerry Slagell.

The Louis and Betty Gardner Outstanding Senior Award is the highest honor given to a senior in the Ferguson College of Agriculture. This award is supported by an endowment established by Brent and Kent Gardner, both previous recipients of the award, in honor of their parents, Louis and Betty. Slagell received a Remington bronze sculpture along with a scholarship for her achievements. 

Slagell was also named the Orange Gown recipient and will represent the Ferguson College of Agriculture as the college’s gonfalon carrier at the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 11.

“Throughout her time in the Ferguson College, Erin has shown a commitment to the development and success of her peers,” said Cynda Clary, Ferguson College of Agriculture associate dean of academic programs. “She exemplifies the values of the college through leadership, academic excellence and service.”

Slagell has contributed to the college in various capacities. She is a Ferguson College Career Liaison and is currently serving as president of the group. She also was a Student Academic Mentor for the AG 1011 freshmen seminar course.

Additionally, Slagell was a member of the Food Science Club, the Meat Science Association and the 2022 OSU Meat Judging Team.

Following graduation, Slagell plans to work as a technical services supervisor for empirical foods inc.

“The Ferguson College of Agriculture has given me a strong foundation of professional skills through my involvement with clubs, leadership organizations and internships,” Slagell said. “As I move onto the next chapter of my life, I am confident the knowledge and skills instilled in me through the Ferguson College will be evident as I represent my university at the next level.”
