Chapman Howard, a mathematics and mechanical engineering major from Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been selected as an Oklahoma State University 2019-2020 Outstanding Senior by the OSU Alumni Association.
The Outstanding Seniors award recognizes seniors who show excellence through academic achievement; campus and community involvement; academic, athletic or extracurricular honors or awards; scholarships and work ethic during their time at OSU.
Howard is featured in Episode 24 of the Pokes PodCAS: "An ending without a conclusion, with Outstanding Senior Chapman Howard."
While at OSU, Howard served as undergraduate coordinator for Presidents Leadership Council, community organizer of students for Bernie Sanders, a College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) Scholars executive member, and a Student Union Activities Board (SUAB) Talent Committee member. His community involvement includes volunteering at Our Daily Bread Food & Resource Center, St. Crispin’s Church Camp, Oklahoma WONDERtorium, and serving as a volunteer on the campaigns of both Andy Richardson for State House and Trish Ranson for State House.
Howard was also an OSU Convocation Student Speaker, and he was named a Goldwater Award Nominee, Koslow Research Scholar, Tau Beta Pi Scholar and an OSU Student Employee of the Year finalist.
“The Cowboy Family has molded me in a way I can never forget,” Howard said. “I would not be the person I am today without this community, and now, I am inspired to impact students the same way OSU impacted me.”
After graduation, Howard plans to pursue a graduate degree at a major research institution, earning his Ph.D. in mathematics.
Howard is one of 16 students selected for the 2019-2020 Outstanding Senior award. The OSU Alumni Association Student Awards and Selection Committee selected the 16 winners after meeting with the 41 Seniors of Significance selected in the fall of 2019 and reviewing their applications.
