Board approves personnel actions; Duane Gill to head Department of Sociology

(GOODWELL, Okla., April 17, 2009) -- Several personnel actions were approved during the Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents meeting on April 17 on the Oklahoma Panhandle State University campus.

 Duane A. Gill of Mississippi State University was named professor and head of the Department of Sociology. 

Gill joined the MSU Department of sociology in 1988, and is currently the associate director and research professor for the Social Science Research Center and professor of sociology at MSU. He received his B.A. from Central College in Pella, Iowa, his M.A. from Kansas State University, and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, College Station, all in sociology.

APPOINTMENTS: Jon-Joseph Q. Armstrong, assistant professor, plant and soil sciences; William C. Schwartz Jr., assistant professor, accounting; Chad M. Stefaniak, assistant professor, accounting; Mary A. Larson, professor, action grants tenure, library.

CHANGES: Patricia A. Bell, title change from professor and head to professor, sociology.

SABBATICALS: Chanjin Chung, agricultural economics, 100 percent sabbatical to research agribusiness and marketing, particularly focusing on Korean and Japanese beef markets, and to produce publication manuscripts, from June 24-Dec. 23; James M. Pappas, management, 100 percent sabbatical to conduct research to explore the effects of strong-tie relationships in the Greek culture, specifically exploring their effects on entrepreneurship initiatives, Jan. 1-May 31, 2010; Dursun Delen, management science and information systems, 100 percent sabbatical to develop a collaborative research partnership with the faculty of an international institution and to publish scholarly articles in high quality academic and professional journals and conference proceedings, July 1-Dec. 31, 2009; Karen Flaherty-Pappas, marketing, 100 percent sabbatical to conduct research on age discrimination in Greek markets in collaboration with faculty and doctoral students at the Athens University of Economics and Business, Jan. 1-May 31, 2010.

RETIREMENTS: John R. Cross, sociology, July 1; Craig B. Robison, business academic services, July 1; Joe W. Fowler, economics and legal studies, June 2; A. Kenneth Stern, educational studies, June 2.

At the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences, Mary H. Bowles, associate professor, was appointed as Small Animal Medicine Section Chief, Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

At the OSU Center for Health Sciences, Sarah M. Hall was approved as a clinical assistant professor, family medicine.    

For OSU-Oklahoma City, a title change was approved for Jonathan A. Fozard from director to senior director, instructional technology.
