Online Master’s in Management Information Systems program earns top-10 recognition

Wednesday, May 9, 2018

Oklahoma State University’s Master’s in Management Information Systems program continues to be recognized nationally as one of the best in North America, earning top-10 rankings by two different organizations.

The OSU program was recently listed No. 10 in the rankings of the Top 20 Master’s in Management Information Systems Online Degree Programs for 2018 by Best College Reviews. Also, the MS in MIS program at OSU was selected second in the rankings of the 15 Most Affordable Master’s in Data Science Online 2018 degree programs by Data Science Degree Programs Guide.

“We have a talented set of faculty, we attract great students, we have an amazing support staff in our Online Learning office, and we keep courses relevant and applicable to today’s big data world,” said Rick Wilson, chair for the Department of Management Science and Information Systems. “These rankings reflect the effort we invest in providing top quality programs in the data science and analytics domains both face-to-face and online.”

OSU’s program was selected for the Top 20 Master’s in Management Information Systems Online Degree Programs for 2018 based on not only the program’s solid core curriculum but also for its offerings of a data science option and health analytics certificate. Being designated as a STEM program enhances its relevancy and provides students a broader base to build future career opportunities.

The Best College Reviews ranking was compiled using data based on tuition costs, customization options within the degree program (content and format) and the program’s unique offerings that set it apart from others.

In February, the program was named second by Data Science Degree Programs Guide’s ranking, which used the National Center for Education Statistics’ College Navigator database. The 15 most affordable master’s in data science online degree programs were selected from accredited programs offering degrees with a data driven curriculum and having an average annual graduation tuition rate of less than $10,000.

The Department of Management Science and Information Systems (MSIS) at OSU has long been a significant contributor in the data science and analytics field in both education (online and traditional instruction) and in research.

The MSIS department has an outstanding group of faculty, including two Regents Professors specializing in the data science and analytics field; a long history of research publications in the field’s top journals, including some of the most cited publications in the history of neural network and decision support system research. The department had long anticipated the increasing importance and relevance of data science and analytics, as they have been offering courses at the undergraduate level in this domain for more than 30 years.

Wilson says Oklahoma State will soon offer its students the opportunity to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in an accelerated time frame, incorporating the existing Options in Data Science and the Option in Cybersecurity (Information Assurance) along with the Master’s in MIS and Master’s in Information Assurance programs.
