Monday, October 22, 2018

A group of Oklahoma State University Master’s in Business Analytics students were among those participating in the 2018 MidWest SAS® Users Group (MWSUG) Conference earlier this month in Indianapolis.

The OSU Spears School of Business graduate students participated in the three-day conference which included paper and poster presentations from other SAS® users, hands-on workshops, live demonstrations and opportunities to network with other SAS® users. In addition, they were able to visit with staff from SAS® that was able to provide their unique expertise and insight.

“This is the fifth year in a row that our students have participated and won multiple scholarships at MWSUG Conference,” said Goutam Chakraborty, SAS professor of marketing analytics and director of the Master’s in Business Analytics program at the Spears School of Business. “This is also the first time one of our students won best paper in a section. I am extremely proud of their achievements.”

The Spears Business students that presented posters at the conference were:

  • Parag Sasturkar, “Factors Responsible for Students Enrollment at Oklahoma State University”
  • Rishabh Mishra, “Addressing Opioid Crisis using Data Science”

The Spears Business students that presented papers at the conference were:

  • Manideep Mellachervu, “Analyzing Amazon’s Customer Reviews using SAS Text Miner for Devising Successful Product Launch Strategies”
  • Sridevi Loya “Analyzing YouTube Comments on Gun Violence Using SAS Viya and SAS Enterprise Miner”

Mellachervu’s paper was selected as the best paper in the “SAS 301 Beyond the Basics” section.

“It was a great honor to receive best research paper award and represent OSU in MWSUG 2018 conference,” Mellachervu said. “My favorite part of the conference was networking with industry SAS professionals and building valuable connections. Additionally, this opportunity helped me to understand the different applications of SAS and its products in providing real time analytical solutions across various domains. Participating in the competition was a remarkable experience for me to learn about many innovative papers. Besides, this award is a motivation for me to present in future conferences.”

Sasturkar, Mishra, Mellachervu and Loya each were awarded scholarships to attend the conference.
