The Oklahoma State University School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) has been recognized for its high-quality program and faculty research, according to recent rankings and a global database of most-cited scientists, including researchers at HTM.

Recently, CEOWORLD Magazine ranked HTM, a part of the Spears School of Business, as the 24th best hospitality and hotel management school in the world for 2021 based on a survey of 186,350 graduates, industry professionals, employers and recruiters between Nov. 15, 2020 and Feb. 22, 2021.

Similarly, a recent Stanford University study, which listed the world’s top scientists in 22 scientific disciplines and 176 subfields, named four HTM researchers — Dr. Li Miao, professor emeritus; Dr. Hailin Qu; Dr. Kevin So; and Dr. Brij Thapa — among the best in the field of Sport, Leisure & Tourism, which includes hospitality, tourism, leisure and sport management. The list was compiled by Stanford’s Dr. John Ioannidis and colleagues, who analyzed rankings data of nearly 160,000 top scientists worldwide based on standardized citation indicators for their published research.

“As one of the oldest and most respected programs, it is no surprise about HTM’s high national and global academic rankings,” said Dr. Thapa, a professor and head of the school. “We offer a business-focused curriculum, hands-on learning labs, study abroad experiences and an integrated internship component. The strength of the school is our accomplished faculty, innovative degree programs and robust partnership with diverse industry professionals.”

Established in 1937, HTM is one of the nation’s oldest hospitality and tourism education programs that has evolved into a business-focused, high-caliber academic program. HTM has a rich tradition of preparing students to be successful leaders in the global hospitality industry. With academic programs that put students at the forefront of hospitality and tourism management, including the HTM master’s degree and the Spears Business MBA option, students are taught critical thinking skills and in-depth knowledge of hospitality and tourism theories.

Graduate students in the master’s degree and Ph.D. programs work closely with renowned experts in research and methodology, applying concepts and innovative instructional strategies. The Ph.D. program prepares new scholars with the competencies and confidence needed to conduct cutting-edge research and apply research findings in teaching as well as in the hospitality and tourism industry.
