OSU A&M Board of Regents approves annual automatic extensions for Schmidly

Friday, September 16, 2005

Friday, the Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents unanimously approved annual automatic extensions for OSU System CEO and President David Schmidly. The action contemplates President Schmidly’s service as CEO and president beyond the expiration date of his current appointment: Jan. 15, 2008.

“President Schmidly has provided strong leadership to OSU and the OSU System. He has led this university through the adoption of a historic strategic plan, which will provide a road map to greatness. His student-centric focus and his commitment to student and faculty excellence will change Oklahoma State and Oklahoma forever,” said V. Burns Hargis, chair of the OSU/A&M Regents. “Our actions today reflect our support for the job he is doing and our desire to ensure stable leadership going forward at OSU and for the OSU System.”

Under the terms of the new agreement, Schmidly’s contract renews automatically every year unless a one-year notice of intent is given.

“I’m appreciative to the Regents for their continued support and guidance,” Schmidly said. “Oklahoma State University is truly an outstanding institution and the OSU System is a vital part of the Oklahoma’s higher education system. It is an honor to serve as president and CEO. I look forward to working with OSU constituents who desire to build an even stronger academic and research institution and system in the future as has been presented and advanced in the strategic plan.”
