Dr. Strathe to deliver “State of the University” report tomorrow
The Fall General Faculty Meeting will be held tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 27) starting at 1 p.m. in the Student Union Theater. Dr. Strathe, Interim OSU System CEO and president, will give a “State of the University” report.  
 
Presentation on holiday survival tips tonight
Dr. Bill Gentry will provide survival tips to help in the struggle against holiday stress and depression during this normally festive season. A little planning and a few coping techniques can help. This free presentation will be held tonight (Monday, Nov. 26) from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Seretean Wellness Center, 1514 W. Hall of Fame. For additional information, please call 744-WELL (9355).
 
SGA college senator elections and Orange Peel fee vote set for Tuesday and Wednesday
All OSU students are urged to vote for SGA Senators representing their individual colleges starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28. Be looking for campaign advertisements on campus. You can vote for senators for your college using your O-Key account from any computer that has an internet connection by going to the election website at http://elections.okstate.edu (link will not work until the elections start). While voting for senators, students will also vote on whether or not they are willing to pay $7.50 per semester as a student fee to support Orange Peel. Contrary to an earlier report, a $15 discount was not included in the final fee question.
 
Assessing toxic effects of nanoparticles
The results of some lung toxicology studies demonstrate that pulmonary exposures to nanoparticles (particles less than 100 nanometers in size) produce more inflammation compared to larger “fine-sized” particles.  David Warheit, Ph.D., will share his research findings as he presents “Health Effects Related to Nanoparticle Exposures—How Do We Assess the Hazards?” during the Sitlington Lecture in Toxicology on Thursday, Nov. 29, at OSU’s Center for Veterinary Health Sciences at 3:30 p.m. in McElroy Hall Auditorium. The Sitlington Lecture in Toxicology is open to the public at no charge and students, staff and faculty across campus are invited to hear this renowned toxicologist.  For additional information, please call (405) 744-6740.
 
Physical Education Club to host Oklahoma Teacher of the Year on Thursday
The Physical Education Club will host 2007-08 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Stephanie Canada on Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Willard Hall Living Room at 7 p.m.  Canada will be speaking to the club and the event is open to any OSU faculty, staff or student as well as the general public. 
 
Spears School announces eminent scholar presentation
The Spears School of Business will present Dr. David A. Whetten, a nationally recognized scholar from Brigham Young University, on Friday, Nov. 29, at 3 p.m. in Student Union, Case Study II as featured speaker for its Eminent Scholar Research Presentation. Whetten, who is the Jack Wheatley Professor and director of the Faculty Center at BYU, will speak on “Predicting Consistently High Corporate Social Performance Ratings: Some Surprising Results.” The presentation is sponsored by the Ardmore Professorship and the Department of Management and the Department of Marketing. OSU student to be on “Millionaire” Thursday
Cole Ives, a senior at OSU from Buffalo, OK, will be a contestant on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” on Thursday, Nov. 29. The show, hosted by Meredith Vieira, can be seen weekdays at 6:30 p.m. on KTUL in Tulsa or noon on KOCB in Oklahoma City (“the CW 34”).

The Tulsa Metro Chamber in cooperation with the OSU Spears School of Business will present a 2008 Economic Outlook Conference. The keynote speaker is Jim Huntzinger, executive vice president, chief investment officer, BOK Financial Corporation. The Oklahoma Forecast will be presented by Dr. Mark Snead, director, Center for Applied Economic Research, Spears School of Business. A panel of speakers from the Tulsa area will discuss the local outlook for Energy, Aerospace, Health Care, and Workforce. Become a farmers market grower
Join one of the fasted growing trends in American agriculture by planting a few extra fruits and vegetables for local farmers markets. The “Becoming A Farmers Market Grower” workshop will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Tulsa County OSU Extension Center, 4116 E. 15th Street.  This free workshop is open to all gardeners and small farmers. Growers don’t have to own large farms to participate.  An extended backyard vegetable garden can grow enough extra produce to help meet the demand from customers at local markets.   In the spring of 2008 local growers will have many different farmers markets available in the Tulsa area. OSU groups plan public events to mark International Human Rights Month
A series of events are planned at OSU the first week of December in honor of International Human Rights Month, starting with the Oscar winning documentary “Born into Brothels,” which will be shown Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Wes Watkins Center. The film looks at the lives of child prostitutes in the red light district of Calcutta. The screening is free to the public. A guest lecturer and candlelight vigil are scheduled for Monday, Dec. 3, at the Wes Watkins Center. Human rights advocate Adriana Portillo-Bartow will speak at 4:30 p.m. in the auditorium and the vigil will follow at 6 p.m. at the corner of Hall of Fame and Washington Avenues. Amnesty International will host a concert at The Third Place, 215 S. Washington, on Friday, Dec. 7. The events are hosted by OSU International Education and Outreach along with Amnesty International, GPSGA and SAGA.
 
Effective attitudes seminar set for Dec. 4 at OSU-OKC
A seminar titled “Developing Effective Attitudes in the Workplace” will be presented by Dr. L. Lee Manzer, professor of marketing, Spears School of Business, at OSU-OKC from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4. The impact of attitudes on any work environment can be significant.  Among the topics discussed are how attitudes are formed, how they are organized, how they are changed, and how they affect your self-image. A better understanding of attitudes can make you happier and more productive in the workplace. OSU Theatre to present “Romeo and Juliet” classic in contemporary setting
The OSU Theatre Department will present the classic “Romeo and Juliet,” in a contemporary setting Nov. 28 – Dec. 2, at the Vivia Locke Theater in the Seretean Center for the Performing Arts in Stillwater. Tickets ($12 general admission, $10 seniors/students) will be available for purchase starting Monday, Nov. 26, in the theatre lobby, Monday – Friday from noon to 5 p.m. or at the door beginning one hour before each performance. Life science economics to highlight opening of OSU speaker series in OKC
A bestselling author tells you how life sciences will shape our economic future to kick off this year’s series of Executive Management Briefings in Oklahoma City. The series, hosted by the Oklahoma State University William S. Spears School of Business, will begin with Juan Enriquez, who heads a life sciences research and investment firm called Biotechonomy LLC. The Atherton Hotel announces first Gingerbread House Contest 
A gingerbread house contest will be held in conjunction with the Stillwater Women’s Club Tour on Sunday, Dec. 9, benefiting the Stillwater Children’s Museum and the Stillwater Medical Center Foundation.  Chefs, adults and family team members are invited to create gingerbread houses with a theme: Celebrating 100 Years of the Sweet Life!  A panel of judges will select the winning gingerbread houses and prizes will be awarded in each category.  The public will also be able to vote for their favorite. Ski/snowboard trip set for Jan. 18-21
Skiers and snowboarders are welcome to join OSU’s Outdoor Adventure for three days of fun in the snow from Jan. 18-21. Enjoy a very short walk to the slopes from our private cabin in Red River. Trip cost includes: transportation, lift tickets, equipment rental, meals, and lodging. Bring your own equipment and save $45. We'll leave OSU Friday evening and return late Monday night. Study on sizing and fit of women's jackets looking for more participants
Researchers are looking for women who would like to participate in a study on sizing and fit of women's jackets by the Department of Design, Housing and Merchandising at OSU. Participation will take about 20 minutes. Participants need to be 26 to 55 years-old, 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, bust below 41 inches, hips below 43 inches. Participants will be asked to have their height, weight, bust and hip measurements taken, try on four jackets, be photographed in each jacket, and comment on the fit of the jackets. Participants in the study will receive a tote as a gift and a chance to participate in a lottery drawing for a $30 gift card [1 in 10 will win]. Consider your participation in the Angel Tree project
The Non-Traditional Student Organization’s annual Angel Tree project is underway. The project gives OSU faculty, staff and students a chance to supply needy youngsters with gifts for Christmas. This year, those who take Angels from the tree (in the Student Union Atrium) will be asked for a phone number or e-mail contact and the numbers on the Angels they take so they can be contacted and reminded if the Angels are not returned. There will be a tag attached to each Angel with instructions on how to fill it out and put it in the box provided. Wellness tip: Spot reduction myth                              
Contrary to what many info commercials suggest, there is no such thing as spot reduction. Fat loss depends on many factors including age, genetics and gender. Regular aerobic exercise will help you lose fat in all areas of your body. Also, consider modest reductions in your caloric intake to help reduce body fat.
