Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension nutrition education specialists note that up to 65 percent of people with diabetes die from heart disease and stroke. In addition, heart attacks occur at an earlier age in people with diabetes, and diabetics are more likely to die from a heart attack and are more likely than those without diabetes to have a second heart attack.  Click here for more details about diabetes management.

Wellness tip: Exercising for a better mood
If you're feeling down, consider adding exercise to your to-do list. Research shows that exercise has the ability to improve mood and reduce depression. Even if you are seriously depressed, exercise can still be one of several interventions recommended by your physician or mental health professional. Exercise is not a cure all, but it releases endorphins, often creates a sense of accomplishment, and thus improves well-being. Wellness tips are brought to you by the OSU Seretean Wellness Center, dedicated to making OSU the Healthiest Campus in America. For more information about services for students, faculty and staff, call 744-WELL (9355).
