OSU professors to be inducted into Higher Ed Hall of Fame
Two former Oklahoma State University business professors, Dr. B. Curtis Hamm and Dr. Jeanine Rhea, will be inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. Hamm, professor emeritus in marketing, and Rhea, professor emeritus in management at the William S. Spears School of Business at OSU, are among 10 individuals selected from across Oklahoma to receive the state’s highest honors for educators this year. Hamm taught at OSU for more than 38 years, and led a major expansion in the business school’s extension efforts. In 2004, he became the first OSU professor to be honored with a fully endowed $250,000 scholarship. Rhea, who started work at OSU in the ’70s, broke new ground with courses directed specifically at women and minorities in management. She was also instrumental in helping establish the annual Women’s Business Leadership Program. Rhea is the namesake for a fully endowed professorship at OSU and was inducted into the Oklahoma Women’s Hall of Fame in 2005. For more information, click here .

Initiative gets boost to prepare students for nanotechnology

The National Science Foundation has awarded $598,000 to OSU-Okmulgee and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education to boost a joint program called the Oklahoma Nanotechnology Initiative. The money will be used to help develop awareness among middle and high school students about the enormous career opportunities the field will offer as well as assist in the development of the high tech labs needed to offer hands-on learning experiences. Nanotechnology is the term used to describe the process of manufacturing at the molecular level.  Scientists predict the technology will surpass the scope of the computer revolution. Before 2010, the market for nanotechnology products and services is estimated to reach $1 trillion in the U.S. economy and will require from 800,000 to two million new workers. Most of these workers will need at least two-year postsecondary degrees. For more details, click here .
