Canned food drive for the North American Food Drive
Held Aug. 25-28
(October 2, 2008 Stillwater, OK) - Kelvin Pollard, Broken Arrow biochemistry and Spanish junior, was in charge of Lambda Chi Alpha’s Watermelon Bust, which collected 7,680 pounds of canned food to donate in Stillwater from sororities that competed in a variety of events.
“We donated our cans to the local Salvation Army. There we unloaded thousands of cans, which took us two days and over seven hours of work,” Pollard said. “Plus the fraternity made a donation to help our total number exceed 10,000 pounds.”
The OSU Service-Learning Volunteer Center, located in 030B Student Union, promotes the interaction of volunteer work and education. Last year, more than 8,500 OSU students volunteered more than 60,000 hours in the community. Each week the center will present a Servant Leadership Award to an outstanding OSU student volunteer.
