OSU students took stage with purpose during Spring Sing
Wednesday, April 13, 2011
With the exception of an intermission appearance from several Oklahoma State University football players, it was a variety of everyone from Astronauts to Ronald McDonald not athletes who performed at their highest level in Gallagher-Iba Arena on April 2.
Spring Sing 2011 showcased 12 fraternity and sorority pairings, with each performing an individual show and a unique story line that incorporated this year’s theme of “We Will Rock You” by Queen.
“The overall show went really well. Each pairing had a lot to offer whether it was hilarious lyrics or phenomenal solos or creative costumes,” said Allison Lyons, Spring Sing executive director. “I think they set the bar high for next year’s participants.”
Along with the pairings, performances included an ensemble comprised of a representative from nearly each fraternity and sorority singing the show’s theme, several individual acts and a senior show.
The event coincided with the Greek Community’s Mom’s Day. The annual choral-style performance raised more than $15,000 for Coaches vs. Cancer.
Pairings were judged on theme originality, vocals, costumes and choreography. The women of Kappa Alpha Theta and the men of Beta Theta Pi were the overall winning pair.
