Oklahoma State University’s Department of Housing and Residential Life presented almost $11,000 in Leader-Scholar Scholarships at the Annual Departmental Banquet on Sunday, April 22, 2012. Over 225 staff members gathered at the Conoco Phillips Alumni Center to recognize the outstanding achievements of the students.
Many times a student’s activities and academic pursuits don’t allow time for an outside job. The Leader-Scholar Scholarship Program rewards outstanding student leaders in the OSU residence halls. This year, there were 118 applicants, and 20 awards were presented.
LeeAnna Lamb Scholarship: This $300 award is funded by four alumni to recognize the contributions of LeeAnna Lamb, a former OSU Hall Director and current Director of the Allen Chapman Activity Center at the University of Tulsa. The winners were: Adam Hofman, Fire Protection Safety Technology junior, from Ft. Morgan, CO, and Kathryn Shore, a Speech Pathology senior from Woodward, OK.

General Leader-Scholar Awards: This fund was endowed three years ago thanks to the generosity of alumni of the residence halls. This year one $500 award was presented to Haley Sheddy.
Dr. Rebecca Adcock Memorial Scholarship: This is the inaugural year for this award, created by the generosity of the late Dr. Rebecca Adcock who passed away on August 12, 2009. Becky was an active student leader in the halls serving as Desk Clerk and RA in Wentz Hall, and was the Assistant Head Resident for Willham North Hall. Becky was studying to be a surgeon at OU Medical School when she was involved in a car accident that left her an incomplete quadriplegic. Not one to be defined by her disability, Becky switched gears from surgery to clinical psychology earning a masters and PhD from Auburn University. After completing a residency at the University of Missouri Columbia and a fellowship at the University of Washington Seattle, Becky joined the staff at Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Hospital in Oklahoma City where she remained until her death. The Department was humbled by the gift Dr. Adcock bestowed to recognize the outstanding contributions of student staff. The first four recipients of the Adcock Award were: Satya Achanta, Graduate Student in Veterinary Biomedical Studies from India; Hom Acharya, a doctoral student in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in School Administration from Nepal; Megan Prouty; and Kathryn Shore.
Jay Jones Award: The final award presented was selected by the executive team of the Residence Halls Association (RHA). The Jay Jones Award was created to recognize excellent leadership, character, and dedication to RHA as represented by Jay Jones, a former RHA President. Jones Hall is also named in his honor. Some years no award is given, but this year there were two very deserving students: Robyn Latham, a Biochemistry senior from Oklahoma City, OK; and Denzel Maxwell, a senior Science Economics major with a focus on Pre-Pharmacy from Tulsa, OK.
“The judges this year commented on the impressive slate of applicants,” said Dr. Matthew Brown, Director of Housing and Residential Life. “While all of our student staff members make significant contributions to their living communities and to campus, this program provides us the opportunity to recognize the best of the best. Our students are conducting research, preventing abuse, advocating for the less fortunate, and creating an impact on the world around them.”
OSU Housing and Residential Life houses over 7,000 residents in twenty-four residences halls and seven family and graduate student housing neighborhoods.
