Pulitzer-winning photojournalist to lecture at OSU

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist William Snyder will deliver the 25th annual Paul Miller Lecture at 11:30 a.m. on March 30 in the Wes Watkins Center Auditorium at Oklahoma State University.

Derina Holtzhausen, professor and director of the OSU School of Media & Strategic communications, says the Paul Miller Lecture was created to expose students and the community to successful professionals in the field of communications. “We are honored to host Mr. Snyder’s visit and bring a journalist who has thrived in his profession to our campus,” she said.

A four-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, Snyder worked for The Miami News covering major news stories that included riots, Haitian boat people and space shuttle launches.

In 1983, Snyder landed at The Dallas Morning News where he covered stories that included the explosion of the Shuttle Challenger, the 1991 coup attempt in the Soviet Union, the reunification of Germany, seal hunting in Newfoundland and two Republic presidential conventions.

Snyder earned a bachelor’s degree in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a professor and chair of the photojournalism program at his alma mater.

The lecture is open to the public. For more information, email melissa.powers@okstate.edu or phone (405) 744-6357. The OSU School of Media & Strategic Communications is one of 24 departments in the College of Arts and Sciences.
