Forum debate set on upcoming ballot propositions

The Stillwater League of Women Voters will host a forum on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from 7 - 8 p.m. on the pros and cons of the three propositions that voters will decide in the upcoming election on Nov. 12.

Stillwater citizens are invited and encouraged to attend the informative discussion. The propositions will be presented individually and responders will have 1 and 1/2 minutes each to respond. "The reasoning is each proposition has its own features and should be dealt with individually," said Joanne Murer, LWV forum organizer.

Hal Ellis, is the chair of a group called "Common Sense First" and he will present the opposing side of the position. Mayor John Bartley will represent the pro side of the propositions.

The three parts to the Proposition include 1-Parks Development project, 2-Public Safety project and 3- Transportation Sales Tax.

Twitter Townhall set for noon on Wednesday

The City of Stillwater is inviting individuals to tweet their election questions on upcoming propositions and watch them answered on TV during a Twitter townhall meeting from noon – 12:30 p.m.  on Wednesday, Nov. 6.  The townhall will be televised on Suddenlink Channel 23 and AT&T U-verse channel 99.

Representatives from the City will answer questions during the 30-minute townhall. Citizens will be able to electronically post their questions live during the meeting in three different ways:

•             Tweet your question to @stillwaterokgov using hashtag #AskStillwaterOK

•             Email your question at news@stillwater.org

•             Text in your question at 405-564-3046

The panel of City representatives consists of Mayor John Bartley, City Manager Dan Galloway, Police Chief Ryan McCaghren, Fire Chief Tom Bradley, External Services Director John McClenny and Public Safety Director Norman McNickle.

“Over the last couple of months, we have conducted several speaking engagements with community groups and held public forums about the 11-12-13 election,” Mayor John Bartley said. “We thought doing a townhall forum using social media would be a great tool for those citizens who we may not of reached yet.”

Depending on the number of questions that come in, some may not be answered during the forum, but staff will answer them as soon as possible

Residents may download fact sheets that explain about each proposition from the city’s website at http://stillwater.org/government/2013bond.php.
