KOSU and IAO seek Oklahomans to put ""Art on the Record"" for new Film Row studios
Wednesday, August 7, 2013
KOSU, the NPR station serving Oklahoma City at 91.7, and Individual Artists of Oklahoma are encouraging the public to bring new life to the station’s old records through their “Art on the Record” project. The station will pull hundreds of old records that are no longer in use from storage to serve as vinyl canvasses for artists young and old to create unique pieces of art that KOSU will display at its new Oklahoma City studios in the Hart Building in Film Row, 726 West Sheridan.
“This will be a fun way for our Oklahoma neighbors to get in the groove with KOSU as we celebrate the opening of our new broadcast facility in historic Film Row,” said Kelly Burley, KOSU Director. “We are excited to see the final creations and to show them off in our new home.”
Participants can join a live, family-friendly painting project at the IAO gallery during the monthly Film Row Frolic, sponsored by Fowler Auto Group, Friday, August 16th. Participants are asked to pre-register for that event at https://iao.submittable.com/submit/22765. Records can also be picked up for people to create artwork on their own schedules at the KOSU Studios in Stillwater or Oklahoma City, the Spy Studios or IAO Gallery. The deadline to return the finished works of art to IAO is Monday, September 9th.
“Individual Artists of Oklahoma is looking forward to KOSU’s expansion into historic Film Row and we are thrilled to partner with the station to encourage residents to unleash their creativity through this unique project,” said Kendall Brown, IAO Executive Director.”
KOSU will unveil the finished art pieces during its grand opening celebration on Friday, September 20th, which will also feature live, local music and food vendors. A panel of judges will also select some of the best and most original art for prizes.
