Oklahoma State University alumni John B. Stuart, Kyle Sikes and Thomas Briggs have been selected from among 170 national Sigma Nu chapters for recognition by Sigma Nu national headquarters for embodying the high ideals of the fraternity in their everyday life.
Stuart and Sikes have been awarded membership in the Alpha Chapter Affiliate Program, one of the highest honors given by Sigma Nu. Only 10 men are selected nationally each year for this award.
Stuart, an Enid resident, was a leader in his fraternity as well as on campus. He founded both the Greek Faith Council and “The Vine,” a clothing ministry for the homeless. Stuart graduated from OSU with a 3.51 GPA in finance while serving as his chapter’s commander and recruitment chairman.
Sikes of Muskogee, Okla., was also selected for membership in the Alpha Chapter Affiliate Program. Sikes graduated with a 3.5 GPA in honors biology while serving as his chapter’s Lt. Commander, LEAD Chairman, and Recorder.
Sikes served as vice president of Arts and Sciences Student Council, treasurer of the Blue Key Honor Society and secretary of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. In 2012 Sikes was selected as one of five men at OSU to serve as homecoming royalty.
Briggs of Tulsa has been recognized as Sigma Nu’s Scholar of the Year for the 2012-2013 academic year, based on academic superiority, leadership and overall excellence. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA in nutritional sciences and has been on the President’s Honor Roll for eight semesters.
Briggs was a member of several academic honor societies, including Blue Key Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honors Fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and Alpha Epsilon Delta Honorary Society. He served as treasurer of Phi Eta Sigma as well as Sigma Nu Scholarship chair.
“It is unusual that two Alpha Affiliates, J.B. Stuart and Kyle Sikes, be named from the same chapter. Couple that recognition with Thomas Briggs being named Scholar-of-the-Year OSU's Sigma Nu chapter – that’s amazing,” says Ival Gregory, Head of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs at OSU.
