OSU responds to medical center funding

Oklahoma State University has issued the following statement from OSU President Burns Hargis regarding increased appropriations for the Oklahoma State University Medical Center, approved today as part of a state budget agreement announced by Gov. Mary Fallin and legislative leaders. 

Statement from OSU President Burns Hargis 

“The $13 million appropriation in this year’s proposed state budget for the Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa, its teaching hospital, and the nationally ranked OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, will enable us to secure matching federal funds to reach the needed $18.25 million.  These funds will sustain our mission to train doctors and care for the underserved and underprivileged.   The public commitment demonstrated by the state through this appropriation positions us to move forward on securing a solid private partner willing to provide the financial, management, and technology resources needed to achieve a shared vision of creating a viable and sustainable future.    We are excited about the future and the opportunities ahead of us.   This is good news for Oklahoma since our mission touches every corner of our state.  We want to thank the Governor, President Pro Tempore Bingman, Speaker Shannon, the leadership in the Senate and the House, as well as many members of both chambers for their recognition of the worthiness of investing in the medical center for the greater good of Oklahoma.”
