Framing History: Highlights from the Oklahoma State Capitol Senate Collection

Monday, June 16, 2014

The Oklahoma State University Museum of Art is pleased to introduce Framing History: Highlights from the Oklahoma State Capitol Senate Collection, celebrating artists and their process for capturing the narrative. The exhibition will be on view from July 7 to Oct. 18, 2014, with a public reception on Aug. 14 from 5 – 7 pm.

Co-curated by Senator Charles Ford and OSU Museum of Art Director Victoria Rowe Berry, this exhibition recognizes those who, with a stroke of paint, capture stories as well as create an impression of a historic event. The frames - works of art themselves - provide an opportunity to focus on each individual piece and create a window into a moment in time. In this particular collection, the frames create a window into a historical event.

After Framing History leaves the Postal Plaza Gallery, the Oklahoma Senate Collection will be officially transferred into the State's records and will no longer travel. Framing History offers a rare opportunity to view selections from the Oklahoma State Capitol Collection here at the Postal Plaza Gallery in Stillwater.

During the exhibition, the OSU Museum of Art will host two public talks featuring artists whose works are on view in the exhibition. Sonya Terpening will give an artist talk on Aug. 15 from 2 to 3:30 pm and Mike Wimmer will give an artist talk on Sept. 18 from 5 to 6 pm. Both will take place at the Postal Plaza Gallery. Mike Wimmer will also lead a workshop on Sept. 20 from 10 am – 2 pm at the Stillwater MultiArts Center. All artist talks and workshops are free and open to the public, no RSVP required.

We are honored to share the history and culture of Oklahoma while also celebrating the process of making art and telling stories.
