Freshman Follies Takes the Stage

Monday, November 3, 2014

Annual event showcases talents of freshmen in the Greek community.

The annual Freshman Follies competition will feature spirited performances of choreography and entertaining lyrics at the Oklahoma State University Student Union Theater  Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 5 – 8, at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 8.

Fraternities and sororities pair off and work together to choose a theme for their performance. Tryouts are held three weeks after school begins in front of judges to determine if a pairing will qualify to perform in the final show.

Each fraternity and sorority chapter selects the members they wish to perform the dancing and singing routine, and practices start as soon as fall semester begins. Hard work not only goes into the routines, but also into the costumes designed to illustrate the story and match the theme.

Ryan Murry, Freshman Follies executive director, calls the event “much more than a show” since it’s also an opportunity for those involved to establish lasting friendships.

“This enjoyable and unique experience is a great way for freshman to step out of their comfort zone and meet other students,” Murry said. “This year, we have seven awesome and innovative shows and can’t wait for the audience to see them come to life on stage.”

Freshmen are not the only students involved in the production. Each chapter pairing is assigned a steering committee liaison who acts as a motivator and assists the pairing in preparing for the show.

Tickets for the shows are $12 and usually sell out in minutes, so act fast by visiting http://okstate.showclix.com. Ticket sales are open online for $12 each.

For more than 40 years, Freshman Follies has provided freshmen the opportunity to light up the stage with their talents. To learn more about Freshman Follies 2014, please contact the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Affairs at 405-744-5490 or visit http://gogreek.okstate.edu/freshman-follies-0
