Hamilton to serve on national board

An Oklahoma State University staff member is making sure the roads are safe for drivers of

oversized semi-trailer trucks, their escorts and motorists alike. Dr. Ann Hamilton, a certification specialist at OSU, was recently appointed to the board of directors for the National Pilot Car Association (NPCA), the National Commission for Pilot Escort Certification (NCPEC) and the National Pilot Car Safety Institute (NPCSI).

“Ann brings a lot to these organizations,” said Elton Boyd, NPCSI vice-president. “She has excellent grant writing, teaching and curriculum development skills that the NCPEC and the NPCSI need. We are excited to have her on board.” 

Hamilton has managed the Oklahoma Pilot/Escort Certification Training Program at OSU’s College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) for two years. She has spent more than seven years teaching the course and developing educational and promotional materials. 

The NPCA, NCPEC and the NPCSI work to improve safety in the movement of oversized loads through the training of pilot car operators, the standardization of regulations among the states, and enhancements to the pilot car driver profession.

“I believe developing educational programs is crucial to enhancing safety and introducing training programs for these organizations,” Hamilton said. “I will work with pilot/escort drivers, trucking companies, state and federal regulators and the insurance industry to make the movement of oversized loads safer for the motoring public, the load driver and the escorts themselves.”
