New OSU club promotes battle of the bands

Monday, October 6, 2014

Join the Square and Compass Club of Oklahoma State University at a battle of the bands on Friday, Oct. 10, from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Payne County Expo Center. Five bands, playing music ranging from punk rock to country, will be judged and headlined by We The Ghost, a pop/rock band from Tulsa. All ages are welcome, and tickets cost $12 in advance and $15 the day of the concert.

The five competing bands are Firefly Season, Skytown, Kirra, The Ones You Loved, and A Beautiful End. Firefly Season is made up of students from Stillwater High School and plays covers of rock songs. Skytown is an alternative rock band from Skiatook, Okla. Kirra is a hard rock group from Oklahoma City. The Ones You Loved is an indie/electronic group from Dallas. A Beautiful End is a rock/alternative rock band from McAlester, Okla.

The Square and Compass Club is a new organization on campus that helps educate and promote the organizations of Freemasonry. One of these groups is the Stillwater chapter of DeMolay. DeMolay, a Masonic Youth Organization, is for young men ages 12-21 that teaches leadership, public speaking and civic awareness through real world applications such as event planning, fundraisers and speech competitions.

“The young men of DeMolay raised $5,000 to put this event on by working at Oklahoma State football concessions,” said Jaymie Jordan, staff adviser for the Square and Compass Club. “They would appreciate the support of the OSU family.”
