Tips for success

Always keep the ultimate goal in mind.

Whether new to campus or a senior, here are some tips to get the best value from your education at Oklahoma State University.

·      Answer the question: "Why am I in college?" The answer will help you set specific goals for yourself and be more productive.

·      Make a commitment to attend class and get there on time. It's usually important to your grade and "good practice" for the career world too.

·      Don't hesitate to visit your professor at his/her office for help. Most professors post the times during the week that they are available.

·      Outline a daily/weekly schedule and try to stick to it. Get a calendar or daily organizer and think priorities – classes, study time, fun time, work, breakfast, lunch, dinner, organization or group activities, exercise, etc. Limit part-time jobs to 20 hours.

·      Identify time gaps during the day that you can use for study, consider a study friend or group. Also set regular time aside for study each day. Try the library for a quiet place.

·      As the semester goes along, give yourself a "study assessment." Ask yourself what's working and what's not as far as your study habits are concerned and adjust. Think overall experience – having some fun too?

·      Ask upperclassmen about professors. Consider how important professors really are to offering you the best education possible and choose your classes accordingly.

·      Finally: Take care of yourself, save some time for campus activities, keep your career goals in mind and your expectations realistic.
