CEAT names new W.W. Allen Scholars

Wednesday, April 8, 2015

High school seniors, Madeline Hawkins from Carrollton, Texas, and Patrick Steichen from Tulsa, have been selected for the prestigious W.W. Allen Scholars Program at Oklahoma State University. The program is designed for top academic students, who show promise in leadership and have career ambitions in engineering.

Madeline Hawkins

W.W. Allen scholars benefit from a more than $104,000 scholarship designed to help them become some of the nation’s top engineering graduates through enrichment activities, professional development, and national and international travel. Following their graduation from OSU, they receive full tuition and housing for study toward a Master of Philosophy degree at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Hawkins, a senior at Creekview High School in Carrollton, is planning to major in industrial engineering at OSU and be active in the clubs and extra-curricular activities across campus. She loves music and is the drum major in her high school’s marching band as well as a member of the jazz band. She is also a member of DECA, the National Honor Society and Model United Nations.

“My goal is to make the most out of all the incredible opportunities at OSU and get the full college experience while preparing for my career and future,” said Hawkins.

Patrick Steichen

Steichen, who will soon graduate from Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa, is planning to study mechanical engineering at OSU.  He is a member of the jazz choir and has served as a cast member in Bishop Kelley musical productions. Steichen is an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable as a member of the Boy Scouts of America. A member of the National Honor Society and the Bishop Kelley Student Council, he is also involved in several school activities including freshman orientation and retreat teams.

“I’m really excited to be a part of the Allen Scholars Program because it offers unique opportunities for me to grow both educationally and professionally,” said Steichen.

Hawkins and Steichen will join the existing W.W. Allen Scholars in fall 2015.
