OSU, City of Stillwater announce plans for community memorial service
Wednesday, October 28, 2015
Oklahoma State University and the City of Stillwater will hold a community-wide memorial service Tuesday, November 3 at 6 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena to honor the lives lost and celebrate the lives saved, first responders and the strength of the Stillwater and Cowboy community.
Four people died and more than 40 others were injured in last Saturday’s parade incident. Killed were retired OSU Regents Professor Dr. Marvin Stone; his wife and OSU employee Bonnie Stone; two-year-old Nash (Strauch) Lucas, son of OSU student and employee Nicolette Strauch; and University of Central Oklahoma MBA student Nikita Prabhakar Nakal.
“Following tragedy it is important to bring people together to not only honor the victims and survivors, but unite as a community to show our support and thank the many people who responded to this horrific event,” said OSU President Burns Hargis.
“I believe this service will continue the journey the City of Stillwater and university were forced to travel together,” said Stillwater Mayor Gina Noble. “The memorial service will be another opportunity for us to come together and continue to heal our community.”
Lt. Governor Todd Lamb, an OSU graduate, will join Hargis and Noble in delivering a message at the service.
The service will be live streamed on OState.TV. For more information on the service and additional information about ways to donate to various funds supporting the victims and survivors go to: http://go.okstate.edu/parade-memorial.
Information regarding media availability to broadcast and cover the memorial service will be sent separately.
