OSU welcomes visitors for Spring Family Weekend

Monday, April 6, 2015

Families will converge on the Oklahoma State University campus for a full day of activities and events including tea with the First Lady, a craft fair and musical performances that are planned for the annual Spring Family Weekend and Mom’s Day on April 11.

Students and families are invited to kick off the day by joining OSU First Lady Ann Hargis at this year’s Mom’s Day Tea. Breakfast and tea will be served from 10 – 11 a.m.  in the Edmon Low Library Browsing Room. Reservations are especially encouraged for the teahttp://sga.okstate.edu/sga-moms-day-tea-rsvp.

Visitors are welcome to the Mom’s Day Craft Fair in the Student Union Atrium, which will follow the tea from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Vendors will have something for everyone, including hand-painted décor, jewelry, clothing, kitchen wares, aprons, towels, handmade soaps, OSU ornaments, clocks, Scentsy products and more.

The University Store at the Student Union will operate from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  and host special events from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Moms and daughters are encouraged to visit the selfie booth and participate in the selfie contest by posting a selfie to social media and receive the most likes to win. Visitors can enjoy refreshments and moms may receive a free makeover by Smashbox. Gameday Couture will set up a tent with owner and OSU alumna Shawnna Feddersen on site to talk about her experience on the television show “Shark Tank.” All apparel in the store and in the Gameday Couture tent will be discounted 20 percent.

“This weekend gives students the chance to invite their families to campus for a visit before the hectic pace of pre-finals and finals week sets in,” said Fran Gragg, parent and family relations coordinator. “It’s a great opportunity for students, their families and members of the Stillwater community to come together in the Union.”

Once the shopping is done, it’s time for rest and relaxation with a couple of musical performances.  Spring Sing will offer a showcase of fraternity and sorority groups choral-style productions with unique story lines. Acts are judged on musicality, theme originality, costumes and choreography. Proceeds from Spring Sing benefit Coaches vs. Cancer. The show begins at 4:30 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena and tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 at http:// okstate.showclix.com or for $12 the evening of the performance at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

At 7:30 p.m. the OSU Jazz Ensemble, performing under the direction of Dr. Ryan Gardner with guest artist Stockton Helbing on drums, will host the OSU Jazz Festival Feature Concert. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased online at http://marketplace.okstate.edu.
