TEDxOStateU 2014 Set

Thought leaders with ideas worth spreading take the stage April 10 at Oklahoma State University for TEDxOStateU 2015.

With the theme of “Ideas,” presenters will bring to the OSU campus thought-provoking views and inspiring initiatives designed to spark discussion in the spirit of the international TED Talk movement.

OSU alumni, faculty and students will share their ideas in the Seretean Center Concert Hall on the Stillwater campus from 1-5 p.m. on Friday, April 10.

Topics for this third installment of TEDxOStateU will include work to battle the “dark web,” work to improve community-police relations, creative ideas in art and theater, an idea to foster entrepreneurship in developing countries, innovations in health care, and more. In addition, OSU students will again bring their ideas for changing the world to the TEDxOStateU stage.

OSU alumnus Chris White was featured on 60 Minutes in February regarding a powerful new search engine called Memex that he created at the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Memex offers great potential to combat the “dark web.” White will discuss how he developed the idea.

In an effort to improve dialog and relations between the community and the police, Toni Brinker Pickens founded Operation Blue Shield in Dallas. Pickens, wife of OSU alumnus Boone Pickens, will talk about why she developed the idea and how it is working.

Jodi Jinks, an assistant professor of acting at Oklahoma State, will discuss ArtsAloud-OSU, which uses acting and theater to enhance the lives of men at an Oklahoma correctional center.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, live speakers and videos of TED Talks combine to spark discussion and connection in a local group. These self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x refers to independently organized TED events. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program (subject to certain rules and restrictions).

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to “knowledge in dangerously addictive short bursts,” according to TED.com. Since its founding in California in 1984, TED has grown to become a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. TED is building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers — and a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other, both online and at TED and TEDx events around the world.
