OSU Phi Beta Kappa chapter inducts 29 new members
Tuesday, May 17, 2016
The Oklahoma State University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa inducted 28 students and one graduate at its 2016 ceremony.
The Phi Beta Kappa Society was founded in 1776 by five students at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. It recognizes excellence on the part of students with a first or second major in a liberal arts discipline. OSU’s chapter was established in 2013.
“Having a chapter of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honor society on campus shows our faculty’s commitment to high standards in the teaching of the core arts and sciences, and also rewards the achievement of brilliant young people who are committed to a broad and rigorous course of study at OSU” Perry Gethner, Regents Professor of Foreign Languages and President of OSU’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter, said.
Danny Wells, Executive Officer, Division of Education for the Chickasaw Nation, was inducted as an alumni member and delivered an address, emphasizing the importance and value of a liberal arts degree.
