McKnight Center to host third chamber music festival

The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts presents its third Chamber Music Festival Nov. 7 through Nov. 10. Previously a tour throughout the region, this year’s festival will take place at its new home — The McKnight Center for the Performing Arts at Oklahoma State University.

“This year’s Chamber Music Festival is particularly special because it’s taking place in our new center for the very first time,” said Marilynn and Carl Thoma Executive Director Mark Blakeman. “Our intimate, acoustically-focused performance hall is the perfect location for music of this caliber. We feel both the audience and the musicians will benefit greatly from the space. Our last two Festivals were well received, and with this year’s outstanding lineup and stellar space, we continue to bring the highest artistic experiences to the region.”

Internationally recognized pianist Anne-Marie McDermott returns as artistic director for this year’s festival, alongside The St. Lawrence String Quartet, virtuoso double-bassist Edgar Meyer and celebrated cellist Joshua Roman, an Oklahoma native.

The festival's Nov. 7 performance will include an on-stage soiree where 150 guests will be able to join the artists on stage for a concert and catered dinner. Serving as a tribute to Veterans Day, the Nov. 9 performance will incorporate celebrated works by American composers. The Chamber Music Festival: In Concert program on Nov. 10 will feature well-known, beloved works by Rossini, Mozart and Schumann.

“I’m honored to return for season three of The McKnight Center’s Chamber Music Festival, alongside other highly esteemed musicians,” McDermott said. “The new, state-of-the-art venue encourages intimate connections between the performers and the audience, which will make for a unique experience all around.”

The Chamber Music Festival performances will take place in The McKnight Center’s Performance Hall, a 1,100-seat venue with terrific sightlines and outstanding acoustics from every seat. The full repertoire can be found below:
