A new initiative at Oklahoma State University is looking to bring the Cowboy family together to support mental health.

Cowboys United for Mental Health has one mission — to reduce barriers to accessing mental health services and expand coverage for OSU students.

On Oct. 8-12, the new giving campaign seeks to raise $100,000 to elevate and expand mental health services for students, building upon the multi-layered system of support already in place.

This is a current need on college campuses across the nation as the demand for mental health services has grown tremendously.

This trend is apparent throughout the OSU-Stillwater campus, where mental health is becoming an increasingly larger priority to students. In a 2019-2020 study, 42% of OSU students reported that they have received psychological or mental health services, and 76% reported that they would consider seeking help from a mental health professional.

Support generated from the campaign will increase funds for projects and resources such as additional online mental health services, increasing the number of free counseling sessions for students, graduate assistants and more.

The campaign’s first $70,000 raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the generosity of 14 matching gift donors:

  • BancFirst
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma
  • Carey Conley and Laurel Wilson
  • Shane and Kristen Crawford
  • Steven and Lisa Cummings
  • Leslie Griffith
  • Leah and Brad Gungoll
  • Halley’s Family Dental Care
  • Tammy Lee
  • Julie Ross-Martin and Melvin Martin
  • Tiger Drug & Compounding Lab
