Oklahoma State University celebrated its annual Poketoberfest on Saturday, inviting students and the community to enjoy a fun-filled day of activities, food and German culture.
The Student Union Activities Board organized the event, which aimed to provide a unique twist on the traditional Oktoberfest.
"This year, we're excited to offer a range of activities, including pumpkin tossing, a Plinko board for fun prizes and wood-burning crafts where attendees can create their own coasters," said Haley Monday, art festival director and a senior majoring in studio art.
Among the attractions was the German Club, led by President Hannelore Copland, who highlighted the club’s involvement in bringing authenticity to the event.
"We're here to showcase German culture through music and traditional attire, and we want to make it a more genuine Oktoberfest experience," said Copland, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering with a German minor.
Attendees could also enjoy refreshments like root beer and bratwursts while participating in activities such as beer stein-holding competitions.
"The goal is to create a relaxed atmosphere where everyone can come together and enjoy German traditions," Copland said.
Freshman electrical engineering major Ariale Patterson stumbled upon the festival and expressed her excitement.
"I didn't even know this was happening, but it's amazing,” Patterson said. “I’m looking forward to trying everything.”
Monday said Poketoberfest provided a fun outing and an opportunity for students to engage with different cultural organizations on campus. The free event encouraged participation and highlighted the community spirit at OSU.
Organizers expressed hopes for continued growth and engagement in future years, aiming to incorporate even more authentic German traditions.
"It’s a fun event, and we want to make it even better next year," Copland said.
