Hamm Institute for American Energy announces new institute fellows

The Hamm Institute for American Energy at Oklahoma State University announced the 2025 cohort of Institute Fellows — distinguished scholars whose research and academic leadership are advancing energy security through innovation and research.

These Fellows represent diverse disciplines, including technology, economic policy, advanced chemistry, safety engineering and international trade relations. Their collective expertise embodies the Hamm Institute's mission to provide solutions for secure, affordable and stable energy for the U.S. and our allies.

“These Fellows embody the collaborative spirit of the Hamm Institute,” said Dr. Ann Bluntzer Pullin, Hamm Institute executive director. “Their leadership in research and education is shaping the policies and technologies needed to power the world responsibly and reliably.”

2025 Hamm Institute Fellows:

  • Dr. Clint Aichele — chemical and biomolecular engineering — focuses on flow assurance, separations and wettability
  • Dr. Prem Bikkina — petroleum engineering — leads research on enhanced oil recovery and carbon storage
  • Dr. Xiaofeng Chen — geology — specializes in fault mechanics and reservoir integrity
  • Muhammad Jujuly — process safety and chemical engineering — specializes expertise in process safety and pipeline integrity
  • Dr. James Payne — Economics — Dean of Spears School of Business with globally recognized research in energy and financial economics
  • Andrew Ranson — global trade — Director of OSU’s Wes Watkins Center for International Trade Development, with expertise in strategy and economic development
  • Dr. John Schoeneman — political science — studies energy security, global trade and political-economic networks
  • Dr. Javier Vilcáez — geology — focuses on the Water-Energy-CO2 nexus and subsurface resource sustainability
  • Dr. Jimmie Weaver — chemistry — leads innovative research in green chemistry, photosynthesis-inspired catalysis and environmental remediation
  • Dr. Betty Simkins — finance — studies enterprise risk management, energy finance and the intersection of technology and financial systems
