OSU Sexual Health Research Lab Presents at Annual Meeting

Members of the Sexual Health Research Lab at Oklahoma State University traveled to the 2015 national annual meeting of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality held in Albuquerque, N.M., November 12-15. While at the meeting, students and faculty attended various sessions related to sexual health, discussed future collaborations between Oklahoma State University and other institutions, and highlighted the important work completed by the Lab.
Faculty and students also presented their research to the attendees, highlighting the intersections of public health and counseling psychology to the sexual health of individuals and communities.
Assistant Professor and Director of the Sexual Health Research Lab Dr. Randolph Hubach presented, “University sexual assault programs: What students themselves say is needed.” Hubach stressed the importance of considering the needs of students when designing and implementing institution wide sexual assault prevention programs. Counseling Psychology Professor Dr. Carrie Winterowd presented, “The role of self-compassion in romantic relationships of LGBT individuals.”
Doctoral students Colton Brown, Joe Currin and Brendon Glon presented as well.
Brown presented “Similarities and Differences Between Behaviorally Bisexual and Behaviorally Monosexual Individuals.” Currin presented “Moving towards a multi-dimensional assessment of sexual orientation and childhood nonconformity: Implications for sex research. Glon presented “Religiosity as an influence of sexting frequency in married/long-term relationships.” Mental Health Counseling Masters student Chris Jayne presented “Body image, body satisfaction, and men’s sexual health.”
