Thursday, February 9, 2017
In conjunction with National School Counseling Week and National Play Therapy Week, the Oklahoma State University college of Education celebrated the Play Therapy Research and Training Lab with an open house on February 6. The lab, located inside the Counseling and Counseling Psychology Clinic in the Public Information Office building on the Stillwater campus, has recently been reinvigorated through the efforts of Dr. Diane Stutey.
Guests included president-elect of the Oklahoma Play Therapy Association Sharon Beets and board member Sharolyn Wallace, along with community members, OSU administrators, faculty, staff and students. In addition to giving a tour of the room and its new toys, lab director Stutey shared information about classes offered at OSU about research conducted with play therapy. Stutey, an assistant professor in counseling and counseling psychology, is also Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor.
Play Therapy is regarded as powerful too for addressing cognitive, behavioral and emotional challenges.
