CDL enjoys first harvest from new raised garden beds
Monday, December 2, 2019
Thanks to the generosity of the Bobby and Claranne Hayes Family, children attending the Cleo L. Craig Child Development Lab (CDL) have had the opportunity plant, harvest and eat from their very own garden this fall.
The Hayes family provided funds for new raised garden beds on the CDL playground. Children have helped to harvest green peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, and watermelons throughout the growing season. Rosemary and basil were also harvested from the garden and used in lunch recipes for the children.
Faculty and staff in the OSU Department of Nutritional Sciences have partnered with the CDL to create recipes and teach lessons to the children. Students in Dr. Lauren Amaya’s Food Prep and Safety class led fun taste testing lessons in the Pre-K and K classroom in the CDL. One of those tasting lessons included a visit from special guest OSU First Cowgirl Ann Hargis.
