Human Sciences faculty honored at awards convocation

Faculty and administrators from across the College of Human Sciences were recognized during Oklahoma State University’s annual University Awards Convocation for 2018. 

Jennifer Jones, assistant professor in Human Development and Family Science (HDFS), was presented with the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award for her outstanding efforts in instruction. In addition, Jones and her team also placed third in the President’s Cup for Creative Interdisciplinary for the Let’s Take a Walk program. Let’s Talk a Walk pairs OSU students and community members with intellectual and development disabilities for weekly walking and talking session and also studies how the activity impacts health and stress levels of college students, community walkers and caregivers. Team members include HDFS associate professor Kami Gallus and nutritional sciences assistant professor Sam Emerson.

Amanda Morris was honored with the Regents Distinguished Research Award. Morris is a Regents Professor in Human Development and Family Science at OSU Tulsa and the George Kaiser Family Foundation Chair in Child Development. Her research focuses on understanding contextual influences on children and adolescents’ social and emotional development. 

Ronald Cox received the Land-Grant Award for Excellence, given to an OSU faculty member whose exemplary contributions promote the land-grant mission. Cox is the George Kaiser Family Foundation Chair in Child and Family Resilience and a cooperative extension specialist. He was recognized with the National Extension Diversity Award during the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) annual meeting in October 2018.

Jorge Atiles, College of Human Sciences associate dean for extension and community engagement, was honored with the University Service Award. The award is given to a faculty member, staff member and an administrator who have rendered meritorious service to the university.

Amy Williamson Payton received the Distinguished Early Career Faculty Award. Payton is an associate professor in Human Development and Family Science and also coordinates the Early Childhood Education program. In addition, she holds the Ramona Ware Emmons Paul Professor Endowed Professorship in Early Childhood.

Hailin Qu, Regents Professor in Hospitality and Tourism Management, was recognized as the recipient of the Phoenix Award for Graduate Faculty. Qu also holds the William E. Davis Distinguished Chair and directs the Center for Hospitality and Tourism Research.

Three individuals were recognized for recent appointments to endowed chairs or professorships. Alex Bishop, associate professor in Human Development and Family Science, is the Bryan Close Professor in Adulthood and Aging. Design, Housing and Merchandising associate professor Adriana Petrova holds the Carol DeWitt Morsani Endowed Professorship in Design. Matt Brosi, associate professor in Human Development and Family Science and director for the Marriage and Family Therapy program, is the Masonic Chair in Gender Studies.

Design, Housing and Merchandising associate professor Cosette Armstrong was honored with the Advising Excellence Award.
