The Oklahoma State University Department of Design, Housing and Merchandising has changed its name to the Department of Design and Merchandising in an effort to more clearly communicate its academic focus.
“Design and Merchandising conveys the commercial focus of our degree options in fashion design and production, interior design, and fashion merchandising,” department head Dr. Lynn Boorady said. “As a department, we strive to prepare our students with the skills, knowledge and real-life experiences that lead to industry success.”
One of seven academic units in the College of Education and Human Sciences, the Department of Design and Merchandising is home to bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D. degrees that are accredited and recognized among the best in the region and nation. The fashion design and production as well as the fashion merchandising bachelor’s degree options are ranked in the top 50 nationally. The department also holds accreditations from the Textile and Apparel Programs Accreditation Commission (TAPAC) and Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). It is also one of only 13 institutions to receive affiliate status from the American Apparel and Footwear Association.
