National Council on Family Relations Olson grant awarded to OSU researchers

A team of researchers in the Oklahoma State University College of Education and Human Sciences — Dr. Ron Cox, Dr. Isaac Washburn and Dr. Darcy deSouza — has been awarded the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) Olson Grant: Bridging Research, Theory and Practice.

The competitive $10,000 annual grant is given to NCFR members working to contribute to the discipline of Family Science by effectively uniting research, theory and practice in their work. Cox and Washburn are faculty and deSouza is a postdoctoral research fellow in theDepartment of Human Development and Family Science.

The grant will support research focused on immigrant families whose children learn both the family’s heritage language and English language and will measure family cohesion, flexibility, and communication while working with theOSU Center for Immigrant Health and Education.

The research team will present at the 2022 NCFR Annual Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The grant is named after Dr. David Olson, a respected and renowned therapist and professional. Olson is an NCFR Fellow and professor emeritus at the University of Minnesota who is dedicated to working in strengthening family units.
