College of Education and Human Sciences faculty and staff receive 2025 university awards

Eleven faculty and staff members from the College of Education and Human Sciences were recognized during Oklahoma State University’s 2025 University Awards Convocation on Dec. 8.

Dr. Jeanette Mendez, OSU provost and senior vice president, and Dr. Chris Francisco, vice provost, recognized faculty, staff and administrators for their accomplishments. 

List of CEHS award recipients:

  • Cindy Haseley, CEHS director of business operations, was presented with the University Service Award, which recognizes administrators who go above and beyond in their roles and have made a notable impact on their units and OSU as a whole.
  • Pam Cartmell received the Advising Excellence Award, which recognizes outstanding academic advisors and mentors. Cartmell serves as an academic advisor in CEHS Academic Programs and Student Services.
  • Dr. Jill Joyce, associate professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, was awarded the Career Champion Award for her commitment to encouraging and fostering professional development for students.
  • Dr. Sumit Mandal, an associate professor in the department of Design and Merchandising, and was honored with the Distinguished Early Career Faculty Award. This award recognizes faculty who have been awarded tenure within the past three years and demonstrate exceptional potential for future contributions to OSU.
  • Dr. Anita Silwal received the Phoenix Award, recognizing graduate faculty who have demonstrated exemplary achievement in leadership, scholarship, professional involvement and community service. Silwal currently serves as an associate professor in the School of Community Health Sciences, Counseling and Counseling Psychology.
  • Dr. Kami Gallus and Dr. Jennifer Jones received the Public Impact Research Award, which honors OSU research efforts that keep community involvement at heart throughout every phase of execution. Gallus and Jones were honored for their extensive work on disability inclusion.
  • DJ McMaughan, associate professor of public health in the School of Community Health Sciences, Counseling and Counseling Psychology, received both the President’s Fellows Faculty Research Award and the Regents Distinguished Research Award, both of which recognize faculty who have conducted groundbreaking research.
  • Dr. Lauren Amaya received the Regents Distinguished Teaching Award, presented to faculty who have demonstrated unusually significant and meritorious achievement in student instruction over a significant period of years. Amaya is an associate professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences.
Two CEHS faculty members were recognized as newly appointed endowed chairs:
  • Dr. Hongyu Wang, Chuck and Kim Watson Chair in Education 
  • Dr. Mike Yough, Don and Cathy Humphreys Chair in the School of Global Studies and Partnerships
