The College of Education and Human Sciences Global is encouraging more students to connect with study abroad experiences. The office is hosting tabling sessions in the Nancy Randolph Davis Great Hall on Jan. 30 and Feb. 6 for students seeking more information.

Currently, summer 2025 study abroad applications are open. This year's programs include Kenya, Greece, Vietnam, Iceland, Colombia and parts of northern Europe. Applications are due Feb. 10.

Ashley Haseley, CEHS director of international studies and global engagement, said studying abroad is an excellent experience for any student. It provides students with opportunities for academic and personal growth.

Students can have career-aligned experiences while fully engaging in another culture. Study abroad has been shown to boost students' confidence and help them gain self and global awareness.

Haseley has experienced this firsthand. After living abroad in Malaysia, she said she gained the personal insight to get her master's degree in international education.

“I just enjoyed learning about different cultures and immersing myself in that culture,” Haseley said. “That made me change my career and want to encourage students to do the same thing.”

Today, she does just that. Haseley encourages students of all majors to apply for study abroad as well as scholarships.

CEHS Global offers a wide variety of options across all majors. Greece covers recreation and society, Vietnam explores food and the human environment, Iceland dives into contemporary issues in diversity, Kenya offers a hands-on opportunity in public health and education, Colombia investigates social injustice and northern Europe tours modern sustainability.

The odds are there is something that will suit your interests. Information sessions to learn more about individual trips are spread across the last week of January. One big information session covering all programs will be hosted in 104 Willard Hall on Feb. 4 at noon.

Scholarships are also available at the college, university and national levels to help fund student trips abroad. CEHS scholarship applications are due Jan. 29, and OSU scholarship applications are due Feb. 1. National scholarship applications vary.

The time to study abroad is now. College years are some of the best to travel before you are limited by responsibilities and work post-graduation.

“When will you have this opportunity again,” Haseley said. “This is the best time to do it, so get those applications in today.”
